This short paper intends to briefly address the question of the reality or existence of God, and how He has made himself known to mankind throughout history.

The question of the existence of God has provoked series of debates for several centuries among people of all races and beliefs. So many people have come to the conclusion that without scientific or other material proves, they cannot accept or believe that God truly exists. Part of the argument of those who do not believe in His existence is that such belief is not verifiable, since they cannot see, hear or feel God.
In an article about God published in The Philosopher magazine, Frampton reflected on the audible and muffled positions of atheists when he wrote that; “If God really exist, He could have just made a physical appearance for all to see him, and that would have settled the nagging question of His existence, once and for all” (p 46).

Since God has not manifested in a material form to be experienced through the senses, the nagging question of the reality of his existence has continued to rage on, especially among scientifically inclined minds. Even among some of those who have openly acknowledged the existence of God; deep inside their hearts, they keep asking this age long question: how can we really know that God exists in the absence of empirical proves?
All around us, sufficient evidence abound that points to the existence and reality of God. However, one needs to approach this subject without any form of skepticism or prejudice. That way, the reality of the immense creativity and ingenuity that abound in nature will be appreciated.

It is very unlikely that that the complex designs and orderliness of creation could have been an accident. It is highly improbable that the immense display of intelligence seen in creation could be a product of evolutionary processes as some have proposed. All the plans, creativity and ingenuity that is visible in nature, points towards one direction: the existence of an all powerful and intelligent Creator!

It is unreasonable or illogical for anyone to conclude that any product could have come into existence without either a designer or manufacturer (creator). Therefore, if the existences of products are credited to their designers and creators, how then can anyone explain this vast creation without attributing it to an exceptionally intelligent Creator who obviously possesses unimaginable abilities?

The reality of the universe and all that exist in it is a solid substantiation and a true reflection of the existence of a Creator. That creator is God! Even with the aid of advanced technology, what is known to mankind in nature could just be a tip of the iceberg of the high level of creativity and design that God has put into his wonderful work of creation.

A renowned molecular biologist echoed the above fact when he submitted that, “In practically every field of fundamental biological research, ever-increasing levels of design and complexity are being revealed at an ever-accelerating rate” (Denton 342).
Denton is not alone in this declaration. Universally, experts in different scientific and technological fields have unanimously acknowledged this fact. How else can anyone possibly offer any reasonable explanation or hypothesis for the existence of the immeasurable complex designs and order that pervades our ecosystem, without considering the reality of a Master Designer?

Interestingly, a submission made by Professor Dawkins, a renowned crusader for Darwinism and atheism, actually contradicted his own belief and points to the existence of God. Dawkins stated that: “We have seen that living things are too improbable and too beautifully “designed” to have come into existence by chance” (43).

Professor Dawkins was right, living things, and as a matter of fact; all things couldn’t have come into existence by chance. It therefore follows that the existence of all things are proofs of the existence of God, who created them.

Ernest Peter said it all: “A careful observation of the universe will reveal creation, design, and order. Since all the products we see around or use has a creator behind them, then our universe and all its beauty and complexities must also have a Creator behind it” (34).

The entire creation reveals an ingenious chemical engineering process put in place by its Creator. Take the earth as an example; it has a perfect ecosystem that is able to recycle the several tons of unrecyclable toxic waste created by man’s technological and industrial activities. Certainly, such complex and perfect design couldn’t have been possible, “if the earth’s ecosystem had truly evolved by chance alone, it wouldn’t possibly have been able to reach such a perfect level of environmental harmony” (Corey 144).

Human beings are endowed with the freedom of thought and as such, realizing the existence of God by observing their environment is certainly not beyond them. Mankind has always had the opportunity to know and believe in the existence of God through the abundant evidence around him. The entire creation with all its designs, massiveness and complexities acknowledges and attests to existence of its Creator.

If man is honest enough to acknowledge the vast evidence of design in nature without any form of prejudice, then he also ought to be in agreement with what the apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans: “Since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities…have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made” (Romans 1:20).

The evidence of God’s existence abounds in all that He has created. In other words, nature presents us with vast tangible evidence that God, though invincible, truly exists!

With such overwhelming evidence all around us, why is man still skeptical about the existence of God? The answer could be found in Gleen Miller’s submission: “there is a part in all of us, both Christian and non – Christians that wants to reject God, just as there is a part in all of us that wants to do good. That bias causes people to act in a variety of ways: some people don’t want to investigate any evidence for God, others will try to explain it away, etc.” (Miller)
The reality of the existence of God is embedded deep inside the conscience of man, even though some refuse to acknowledge such truth. Stewart wrote that, “God has also revealed Himself through the spirit or mind of humanity. All societies have a certain moral code built into them in which stealing, lying, murder, and such are universally condemned. Humanity’s sense of right and wrong testifies to God’s existence.” (Stewart)

God himself has revealed to mankind the reality of his existence through the Bible (whose miraculous preservation over the centuries is a stamp of its divine authorship). From the Bible, we “see” an authentic image of God and his attributes (through his utterances and relationship with mankind in history).

The Bible reveals to us what God is like, what he has done for mankind and his expectations. Indeed, from the Bible, we have a graphic historical account of the existence of God and his activities among mankind.
